Insights 32
- Score a dummy baseline on the same split and metric before reading any model result
- Replace accuracy with prevalence-aware metrics when the positive class is rare
- Do not let a high ROC-AUC on rare events hide poor precision at the operating point
- Read PR-AUC against its prevalence baseline and never compare it across populations with different base rates
- Judge probability quality with log loss or Brier score, and calibration separately
- When reviewers can handle only K cases, rank and evaluate precision at K instead of choosing a probability cut-off
- Separate prevalence changes from model decay before retraining on a production precision drop
- Do not score pooled out-of-fold predictions as if they were one test set
Projects 14
- Booking-flow A/B test: should the one-page passenger form ship?
- Passenger no-show probabilities for overbooking and reconfirmation decisions
- Predicting one-year diabetes progression with an honest error estimate: nested CV on 442 patients
- Card-fraud alerts under a fixed review budget: ranking on day 1, tested on day 2
- Probability of default for a card portfolio: calibrated, monotone, explainable and audited
- Churn risk is not persuadability: targeting a retention budget and designing the test that measures it
