Insights 19
- Retire MAPE when actuals can be zero or near zero
- Expect MAPE-selected models to under-forecast and check bias before adopting them
- Guard MASE against zero denominators and state which naive scaling you used
- Compute WAPE at the level where actuals cannot sum to zero
- Do not average MAPE across series of very different volumes
- Do not choose intermittent-demand models by MAE because it rewards forecasting zero
- Score a quantile forecast with pinball loss at that quantile
- Track forecast bias separately from accuracy
Projects 12
- Booking-flow A/B test: should the one-page passenger form ship?
- Passenger no-show probabilities for overbooking and reconfirmation decisions
- Card-fraud alerts under a fixed review budget: ranking on day 1, tested on day 2
- Probability of default for a card portfolio: calibrated, monotone, explainable and audited
- Churn risk is not persuadability: targeting a retention budget and designing the test that measures it
- Caravan-policy propensity for a direct-mail campaign: many weak signals, one held-out shot
