Introduced on day 55

Degraded mode

A defined, tested reduced behaviour, such as showing cited passages without a generated answer, that a feature switches to when a dependency or budget fails.

In detail

A degraded mode keeps the user unblocked and is usually cheaper than a second full generation path. Trigger it on error rates or budget limits rather than single failures, label the output so users know it is reduced, and test it regularly, because an untested fallback is a guess.
