Expected value
The probability-weighted average of a random variable, E[Y]; the long-run average over many repetitions.
In detail
The conditional expectation E[Y | X] is the average of Y among cases with a given X. Models trained to minimize squared error estimate it; models trained on absolute error estimate the conditional median instead.
