Introduced on day 5

Causal diagram (DAG)

A directed acyclic graph whose arrows encode assumed causal effects; it shows which paths create bias and what to adjust for.

In detail

Back-door paths (into the treatment) carry confounding and should be blocked by adjustment; colliders and mediators should not be adjusted for. The diagram encodes assumptions from domain knowledge - data alone cannot confirm it.
