Exponential backoff with jitter
A retry schedule whose waiting time grows exponentially between attempts and is randomised, so many clients do not retry in lockstep.
In detail
With full jitter the wait is drawn uniformly between zero and a growing cap. Combine it with a maximum number of attempts, a per-request deadline, and the provider's retry-after value when one is returned. Retry only errors that can succeed later, and never an invalid request.
